Armstrongs Begin Curation of the Ed LaChapelle Library

After receiving the contents of Dr. Edward R. LaChapelle’s personal snow and ice library here in Silverton over the summer and fall of 2008, and storing them in the San Juan Historical Society Archive facility over the winter, we were fortunate to retain the curation services of Richard and Betsy Armstrong, former colleagues of Ed’s during the San Juan Avalanche Project in the 1970’s, and close friends of Ed’s ever since.  Betsy and Richard spent a painstaking week in July 2009 sifting through 69 boxes of materials, carefully packed and documented by Ed’s long-time partner Meg Hunt, and cataloging their contents.
