The Center for Snow & Avalanche Studies serves the mountain science community and regional resource managers by hosting & conducting interdisciplinary research and conducting integrative 24/7/365 monitoring that captures weather, snowpack, radiation, soils, plant community and hydrologic signals of regional climate trends.

The Center for Snow and Avalanche Studies conducts the following research, monitoring, and education programs. A wide variety of students of snow – interdisciplinary and international teams of professional scientists, graduate or undergraduate researchers, university field camp groups, K-12 teachers and classes, and practicing snow professionals – are being supported through these programs and using our Senator Beck Basin Study Area at Red Mountain Pass, our Center facilities in Silverton, and our Mountain System Monitoring program datasets.
