Senator Beck Basin Study Area

Putney Site

The Putney Study Plot site, at 12,325' (3,757 m) has been in use for over 30 years and provides 'free air' wind, air temperature and humidity data that is minimally effected by local terrain.

Data is collected by the CSAS via RF link and is also utilized by the Colorado Avalanche Information Center for their US Highway 550 avalanche forecasting program. We are grateful to the Putney site landowner, Tronox LLC, for enabling the ongoing utilization of this excellent site for research and public safety purposes.
