CSAS News: May 2010

EIGHT DUST EVENTS SO FAR THIS SEASON

On May 11th, the eighth dust event of the '09-'10 season came into Colorado with strong soutwesterly winds from the Colorado Plateau. In the San Juans, the dust came in without any snow or rain, turning the snow-covered mountains tan. Several satellites captured this event at the source area(s) and the plumes of dust emanating from them into Colorado.  The USGS's Flagstaff office has compiled imagery and time-lapse video of all of the spring 2010 dust events at this site: http://sgst.wr.usgs.gov/dust_monitoring/dust-events/may-11th-2010/
